8 Weeks

I can't believe that Micah is already 8 weeks old! I would say 2 months, but, that isn't really until Friday and his 2 month check up is on Monday so today we celebrate 8 weeks! He is becoming more and more like a little person and less like a newborn. He is starting to have a personality. His personality, of course, is adorable. He loves to smile and coo. He loves laying in his bouncy seat or under his jungle play gym. He still hasn't decided if he likes his swing or if he likes tummy time. He now loves bath time which makes the evenings more fun. He will only sleep swaddled super tight and still doesn't like diaper changes. He has also discovered a paci he likes other than the green hospital ones. The "Mam" is now his favorite. They are great because they stay in his mouth! We don't know how much he weighs currently (we'll find out next week), but we do know that he no longer fits into 0-3 months clothes. He eats like a pig and is turning into the cutest little chunker around! He is such a good sleeper, most of the time. Despite my efforts, he refuses to get on a schedule. Most nights, he'll give us at least 6 hours of straight sleep. For a week or so, he was going 8 hours, but that was just a tease. He hasn't done that in a while.
Micah had quite an exciting weekend for an 8 week old. Friday night, we met our bible study group at Bill's Cafe. For those of you who aren't from Kingwood, this is a Kingwood original. It has been around longer than me (I think). Walking in with Micah, the scene from Sweet Home Alabama went through my head where Reese Witherspoon says "You have a baby... in a bar?" Yes, indeed, we had a baby, in a bar. Bill's is only 1/2 a bar, though. It is still a family atmosphere. There were other kids there. We weren't completely crazy parents. It was pretty funny though, when someone started smoking near us and I began to freak out. I had to remember that yes that was allowed. You will see below that Micah didn't enjoy the smoke smell either.
Saturday morning, Micah gave us some sweet cuddle time. David went and got him around 10 (yes 10, Micah let us sleep in) and we put him in bed with us. We just layed there and stared at him in amazement. He is such a precious gift from God. He just smiled and cooed and soaked up all the attention. We realized in that moment how much having a child can teach us about God's love. Right now, Micah can't tell us he loves us, he can't tell us he appreciates us, yet he completely relies on us. He communicates with us when he needs something (and it usually isn't pleasant communication). It is our responsibility to take care of him and to provide for all of his needs. We do this lovingly every step of the way. This is how we treat God most of the time (or at least I do). We let him know when we need something and trust that he will provide. He loves us no matter what. He loves us despite our whining. God is so good!
