Steamboat {2014}

We took a trip to Steamboat in January and I just realized I never published the post about it! We left Laurel at home again this year with Suzu and Teddy and took Micah Man with us. He got to miss a couple of days of school had such a GREAT time this year!

He did great in ski school but the highlight for him was getting to go tubing. He had a blast. All the adults were freezing but he didn't mind the cold or being covered in snow, he just wanted to keep tubing! The day after tubing, he went to ski school and had a blast. This was a short trip for us and I wish it had just been a couple days longer so he could've skied another day or 2.
Half of the family came down with a nasty tummy bug throughout the course of the trip but luckily everyone was on the mend as we headed home. As always, we had a great trip and can't wait to go back!

Steamboat for the 4th

It's August 1st and I am just now posting about July 4th, I guess I have some catching up to do! We have had such a fun, packed summer and are sad to see it coming to a close. Micah starts Kindergarten in less than 2 weeks! Over July 4th, we left the kiddos with Suzu for Camp Suzu and headed off to meet Mimi, Bubba, Kev, Audrey and Wyatt in Steamboat. As much fun as we have with the kids, it was so nice to just get away for a few days to spend time together and rest. We arrived on the 4th so got to be a part of Steamboat's festivities including their awesome fireworks show. The whole time we were there, we had such great, cool weather that we wanted to spend all of our time outside!

Over the course of the long weekend, we did a lot of hiking...

... and lots of eating yummy food...

We always love our time in Steamboat and this trip was no exception! Thanks Mimi and Bubba for a fun trip!

Steamboat

The weekend after Christmas, David, Micah and I headed to Steamboat for some relaxing time in the mountains with Mimi, Bubba, Connor and Alex! We have never split the kids up for a trip before but we thought we'd try it out this time. Being in Steamboat in the winter with a toddler is rather challenging but with a big kid (aka a kid old enough to ski) it is fun! So, we left Laurel in College Station for some special Suzu and Teddy time and Micah Man headed to the mountains with us. We had so much fun having quality time with our big boy and spending time with family! Our first night there we made our regular trip to Fuzziwigs, the candy store, to stock up for the remainder of our trip. I don't know how we manage to spend that much in a candy store but we always do and the worst part is that we ended up going back later in the week for more...
On New Year's Eve, we enrolled Micah in ski school. He was not too crazy about it last year so we were curious to see how he liked it this year. He ended up liking it ok. When we picked him up he said he had fun but he didn't want to go back the next day. We later figured out that it wasn't skiing he disliked, but being cold and it was a COLD week. David and I even struggled skiing because it was so cold. So, we'll try again next year!
Micah did love getting out and playing in the snow (in short increments of time). He wanted to build a snow man so bad but the snow was super powdery so we didn't end up making one.

Micah couldn't wait to have a snowball fight

His favorite thing to do in Steamboat ended up being swimming. Go figure. He is such a little fish. Every afternoon we would head down to the hot tub and he would swim while we relaxed. Sitting in the hot tub while looking at the beautiful ski mountain and watching Micah swim is not too bad of a way to spend the afternoon.
As always, we had so much fun and only wish we could've stayed longer! Thanks Mimi and Bubba for another awesome trip to our favorite place!

While we were in Steamboat, Laurel had tons of fun getting special time with Suzu and Teddy. She got her first pedicure and I'm pretty sure she helped my mom cook every single meal because since coming home she has become quite the kitchen helper.
Micah missed her which was pretty cute and he asked to Facetime with her everyday. Here is a little screen grab of one of their conversations:

Then and now...

We are finally home after being all over the place over the holidays! I am working on organizing my pictures to update the blog but until then, how does this happen so fast?

Steamboat

While the kids played at Camp Suzu, we had am amazing mini-vacation! We had 3 nights (4 days) of pure wonderfulness. We slept a lot, ate a lot of yummy food, rested a ton, hiked, enjoyed a break from the heat of Houston, and even more so enjoyed some quality time together.

Bubba and David had never done the hike up the ski mountain (and I hadn't done it in years) so we decided to tackle it together. Oh my legs, it was hard. But we were so proud of our accomplishment once we got to the top to enjoy the view!

Steamboat is and will always be our favorite place to visit,
thanks to Mimi and Bubba for hosting us for a great long weekend!

Steamboat

On New Years Eve, the kids and I headed to Steamboat with David's family. David joined us the following day. As always, we had such a fun trip relaxing in the mountains with everyone!

Our trip included lots of:
Going out to eat at some favorite restaurants...

Pictures in matching pea coats...

Cuddles with Mimi (I'm pretty sure they are watching videos of themselves here)...

Mountain hot chocolate (no idea what they do but it is always better on the mountain- maybe because I am defrosting while drinking it)...

Skiing with Audrey and Kev...

Beautiful views from the top...

Rest time at the condo...

Swimming (for Micah Man)...

Hot tub...

... and one snow bunny photo shoot...

Our trip also included Micah's first ski school experience. It ended much like my first ski school experience when I was 6. We got a call around 1:30 in the afternoon (pickup is at 3) telling us that Micah refused to go out on the slopes after lunch and we needed to come get him. They said he did great skiing in the morning but it went downhill from there starting with his refusal to eat the spaghetti and meatballs they served for lunch. Oh Micah. Here he is BEFORE ski school...

... and here he is AFTER...

Maybe he'll be ready next year, we shall see!

Thanks Mimi and Bubba for another awesome trip to our favorite place!
