Pass and Fail

I forgot to mention that we went to the Dr. last week for Micah's 3 year check up and to re-check Laurel's ear infection ears. That was quite the interesting appointment. Micah passed his check up, for the most part. His 2 strikes were 1) he doesn't eat veggies... ever. The Dr. said "well as long as he is getting them every other day or so" and I said "no, you don't understand, I don't think he's had veggies in the last year". Her response was not so great so we are working on hiding veggies in his food every day now. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. 2) He had a "mass" on his abdomen. That is just what every parent wants to hear, right? I tried to remain calm as we went for our x-ray and only had one breakdown in the car on the way home. The Dr. called later that day to let us know that Micah was just really full of poop and we needed to give him Miralax. Nice. Sorry, was that TMI? So now I think it is pretty funny but we have to give him the miralax regularly so he doesn't get... all plugged up again. Laurel, on the other hand, failed her ear check. She had to go on a second round of antibiotics and we have already been back since for another re-check and the Dr. thinks that they are finally healing just very slowly. For people out there whose kids have had tubes, how many ear infections did it take before the Dr. went that route? I know I am getting ahead of myself I just hate how upset she gets when her ears are hurting!

Here are Micah's 3 year stats:

Height: 3 feet, 3 inches (84%)
Weight: 38 1/2 lbs (95%)
BMI: 17.7

So I guess they do BMI instead of head circumference at this age?

I so wish I had taken pictures of our adventures to the imaging center to get Micah's tummy x-ray, but I did not. In fact, I have neglected to take a single picture of Micah in the month of March. I don't know why I can only take good pictures of one kid at a time, not both. I promise to take a picture of Micah today.

So, here is Laurel. Another picture from Suzu & Teddy's last weekend:

  1. aww... i'm sorry. dr. visits are bad enough without bad news. I'm going to email you my similar experience about ear infections/tubes, because i started and it was a novel length comment.

  2. I give Jake broccoli and cheese from the frozen food section at HEB. They come in individual serving sizes perfect for him (and me). I've also done the skillet meals that has pasta, chicken, a sauce and broccoli, carrots and peas. He is smarter than Jake though...

  3. elizabeth had constant ear infections- 6 in 3 months, last march, april and may. she didn't have another ear infection again until 2 weeks ago. when we went in, they said the tubes had fallen out (they're supposed to do that apparently). so, um, LOVED the tubes for the less than a year that they worked! and she woke up with a runny nose today and fever, so i'm just waiting for the next ear infection to develop. i think if it does, i'm just going to insist on the permanent tubes asap. there's no point in watching her suffer.
